How to Make a Semi-Custom Wedding Invitation Feel Fully Custom

Planning a wedding is exciting—but let's be real, it can also feel overwhelming.

As you start to search for the perfect wedding invitation, you want invitations that reflect you, but you don't want to start from scratch or get lost in a sea of generic designs. You know that your invitations aren't just paper, but the first glimpse into your wedding day, giving guests a taste of the experience you're creating. But after hours of scrolling and searching, you still haven't found the one.

That's where we come in!

Our semi-custom wedding invitations give you the best of both worlds: beautiful, professional designs with just the right amount of customization. You get a polished, cohesive suite that feels uniquely yours, without the time or cost of fully custom invitations. So, how do we make a semi-custom design feel completely tailored to your wedding? Let's dive in.

What is A Semi-Custom Wedding Invitation?

The biggest difference between semi-custom and custom invitations is where we start. For Semi-Custom, we begin with an existing design and edit until it is right. You can mix and match fonts, adjust colors, update layouts, and add custom elements. This streamlined process means that the turnaround is faster and the cost lower than a fully custom suite.

And the best part? You don’t have to spend hours digging through thousands of fonts or guessing which shade of blue will actually print the way you want. DIY invitations can be tricky. What looks perfect on your screen might not translate the same way in print. Colors can shift, fonts may not pair well together, and getting everything to align just right can be frustrating. When you work with me, you have an expert on your team to ensure your blue prints blue, not purple (a common DIY mishap!)

Every detail is thoughtfully adjusted and professionally printed, so all you have to do is sit back and enjoy seeing your vision come to life.

What Can You Customize in a Semi-Custom Design?

Semi-custom doesn't mean "cookie-cutter." In fact, almost everything can be adjusted to fit your vision! If you love elements from multiple designs available in our shop, we can blend them together to create a unique design. Maybe you're drawn to the florals from Ophelia but prefer the fonts from Jaime. That's no problem; we can mix and match!

Fonts & Typography:
If you'd like to see new font options, just send me your names, and we'll create a preview document showcasing them in our most popular fonts so you can visualize the final look.

Colors & Paper Choices:
We can customize ink colors, envelope colors, and paper finishes to match your wedding aesthetic. You can even opt for luxurious upgrades like double-thick cardstock, letterpress, foil, embossing, or edge painting. We can also upgrade to specialty paper colors! For example, you can have a blue information card with white ink.

Wording & Layout Adjustments:
Whether you want formal, traditional wording or something more modern and playful, we will guide you through etiquette while ensuring your invitations feel true to you.

Elevated Finishes:
Beyond the invitation suite, you can enhance your suite with special details like envelope liners, belly bands, vellum wraps, wax seals, or even a die-cut edge for an elevated finish.

Custom Art:
And if you're dreaming of something completely custom, like a hand-drawn venue sketch or a unique illustration, we work with talented artists to bring those ideas to life, creating something truly one-of-a-kind that won't be used for any other couple.

You Can Customize All Of Your Wedding Day Papers

Your wedding style doesn't stop at the invitation! We can carry these designs throughout your wedding day, including menus, programs, place cards, bar signs, napkins, and more. Even if you don't see an item listed in our shop, just ask! We love helping couples create a cohesive look from start to finish.

How Long Does the Semi-Custom Process Take?

Design Phase: This can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, depending on how many revisions you need. Some couples only need one or two rounds, while others like to explore a few different options.

Proofs & Revisions: Each round of proofs takes 1–2 business days to complete.

Printing & Shipping:

  • Digital printing: Ships 2 weeks after final approval.

  • Foil stamping: Ships 3 weeks after final approval.

  • Letterpress: Ships 4–5 weeks after final approval (our letterpress printer is in high demand, so the sooner we can book your spot, the better!)

Customizing the Daphne Suite for Kiersten & Anthony

Kiersten and Anthony's wedding at the Inn at Fox Briar Farm was a vision of classic elegance, focused on timeless and refined details. From the start, Kiersten knew she wanted wedding invitations that would reflect the same sophistication as the rest of her day. The Daphne Suite, with its vintage monogram crest and traditional styling, was the perfect starting point.

But we didn't stop there!

Kiersten had a clear vision and an eye for detail. She fell in love with a specific piece of artwork for her envelope liner, but it wasn't something we had in our usual sources. Instead of compromising, we sourced a custom design that perfectly matched the aesthetic she was dreaming of, creating an extra-special touch.

We refined the design through multiple rounds of proofs, adjusting minor details to make sure everything was just right. The monogram crest was a key element, reflecting the timeless beauty of their wedding style. The classic monogram, delicate script, and vintage-inspired details set the tone for their celebration, just as their wedding attire did. Kiersten's Lea-Ann Belter portrait-neck lace jacket and Tara Keely for Lazaro gown captured that same timeless charm. She even carried her great-grandmother's purse, a sentimental touch that echoed the care and thoughtfulness behind every element of their wedding.

This is what we love about semi-custom invitations. You start with a stunning base design; together, we refine and personalize it until it feels uniquely yours. Whether it's a custom envelope liner, a special font, or a monogram that ties everything together, we'll create something that feels effortless yet meaningful—just like your wedding day.

“I absolutely love working with Laura! It came together *beautifully* and was exactly what we envisioned. She even put up with all my neuroses about receiving them in time! They were stunning, and the beautiful traditional font we chose had no issues upon delivery to our guests. Since our wedding invitations, I've ordered THREE more times from her shop, and I will continue to do so. The quality is unmatched, and it feels so great to support not only a small business but a good-hearted human as well!" - Kiersten
